THURSDAY NIGHT AT HEROES PUB, BOWLING, AND A SATURDAY NIGHT BARBECUE

Yup, another weekend of fun is over. It began on Thursday night. For me as soon as I'm done my Philosophy class by 7 p.m. on Thursdays the weekend starts. That's because I've got Fridays off. It was a night full of fun games at Heroes Pub following my last class of the week. I got runner up in the 3-ball tourney, ran into my friend Tyson from Grand Forks, and had a few good laughs with Neal Pobran (Omega editor-in-chief) and Matt Silver (Omega news editor). Other people there included Melissa, Meghan, Bill, Carlos and his GF, and a few girls we met that night sitting with us.

Ernie: Who is the president of UCC?
Me (followed by Bill and Neal): MATT SILVER!

That was my response to one of the questions of the trivia game on Thursday. I had a good laugh from that, although Matt didn't find it as humourous. There was also a few games I didn't participate in, like drinking upside down, and a beer chugging contest. I just stuck to the pitchers of beer we had at our table.

FRIDAY NIGHT = BOWLING

On Friday night, I went bowling with Meghan, Melissa, Mark, Bill and Wade. Mike showed up later, but didn't bowl. I was somewhat disappionted by my performance on the bowling alley, and what bothered me more was that when I finally did get a strike, nobody, aside from Bill, was there to witness it. I was getting so close all night too. Ah well, tough break.
The night was an early night for me. I was tired, and was up reasonably late the night before.

A SATURDAY NIGHT BARBECUE

What started slow ended up fairly decent. I didn't want to take the heat of a bad party, but I was basically the only one getting people out, good because it was invite only. But it ended up being a decent showing. At it's peak there was Thea, Jordan, Orne, Meghan, Melissa, Mike, Bill, Wade, John, Tyson, Lin, Chris, and I. 13 of us - not too shabby I suppose, although like Meghan mentioned it was a bit of a sausage fest. That's probably what promped me to go to the bar. I have to admit though less girls meant some pretty in depth hockey discussions surrounding playing a drinking game to the Flames-Oilers game on HNIC. The game is simple. Everybody has a player, and when the players name is mentioned by the commentator, or displayed on screen, the person with that player drinks. I started with McLellen, a goalie which a person would think would mean more drinking, but it wasn't that bad actually. We ended up with more players because it was getting boring.

Tyson: There's no way I could get out of that John.
John:
Yeah you can.
Tyson: Not when the person is taller than you.

I got Tyson into a full nelson and he just couldn't get out of it, although John believed he could have. This was after the hockey game when we had some fights outside, well most didn't, it was actually just me, John and Tyson. This was probably about an hour or so before we went to Magnum's. Some other friends from in town showed up too, and we convinced them to come downtown but they left right away.

John: Man, that was so cool how I just danced on the stage by myself then everybody came storming up.

The stage at the back of the dance floor was full off and on. The way John said it though made it sound like he was taking credit for it getting busier. At Magnum's was also Danielle, Kristina, Erne and some other guys. It was pretty decent and we all busted a move on the dance floor.

Danielle: Hey, since the time moves back does that mean we get to stay here an extra hour?

It was certainly wishful thinking by Danielle that we get out an hour later, but I told her I didn't think so, and in fact, we didn't. By 1 a.m., we all knew it would be 1 a.m. in another hour, but would the bars close? Yes, they still closed at the same time the clocked moved back from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. Ah, gotta love the time change. The extra hour of sleep is certainly nice though.

We went to the Econo Lodge following the bar, but were tired and the night was certainly almost over. It was a night full of some interesting interactions with different people, and overall I have to say it was a lot of fun. I figured our place could host a decent BBQ and HNIC night, and it was. And with 13 people, it was a nice number - not too packed, but not too quiet either. I just would have prefered the guy girl count not be 10-3 males! Yikes!

THE BEGINNING OF ANOTHER SCHOOL WEEK

Things are back to normal again though, and I think I need to try keeping them that way for a while. As nice as it is having friends from out of town coming into town, it can be a bit of a distraction from school, not that I didn't manage to get some stuff done still, because I did. Well, mainly the Omega, for which I wrote two volleyball articles, and a soccer write-up this week. But it's good for the clippings, and getting into sports is what I plan on doing.

John left back to Calgary with my Amber, a friend of his, on Sunday morning, while Tyson left this morning to Grand Forks after we spent last night watching the Canucks game and then "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." It's too bad they're gone, and it really wasn't a long stay at all. I know I'll get to hang out with Tyson more soon though. He's back up in January. However with John, who knows. I think a trip to Calgary is definetely worth it again, but not for a while now.

Today I went to pick up a few groceries, complete my Omega stories, and chose a topic for photography. Though it may take some work, if I can get down to it, I'm planning on doing my photo essay on "The Life of a Kamloops Blazer." My friend Jason lives with a couple of them, his mom billets them, so we'll see what I can do. It would certainly make for an interesting essay. Ah, time to bring out the dollars, buy some film, and get down to business. The assignments not due for a few weeks, but there's just so much to it.

Anyways, I'm out again, when I post again, who knows. Maybe tomorrow, maybe this weekend, or maybe not for a month. Only I can control that. The power is in my hands. But just keep checking these posts because ya never know. Plus you guys who do check these posts do it all the time, so I'm sure you'll be ready to catch the next post.
Peace out yo!

Another Thursday night of drinking, this time with beer bongs

Considering how much schoolwork I have, I shouldn't be drinking as much as I am. But drinking with beer bongs is so much fun. Tonight we were drinking out of a classic beer bong composed of a broom stick connected to a pop can. I had a couple hits on the bong, it was pretty sweet. I'm a little intoxicated, and to be honest, quite amazed at my typing skills in this state of mind. Ah well.
Today was a pretty slack day, like many for me. I don't intend on days to be so uneventful, but they just end up that way lots. As I was chatting to Meghan on messanger today I mentioned how the same people are online all the time, and I sign in to hope some people who are never online sign in and I can see how they're doing. But they never do. So today was just like any other day, and I spent it chatting on MSN messenger with regular people I always chat online with, like Meghan and Jen. Ah well.
As I said to Meghan, it's all about motivation, and I'm lacking in that right now. I can get it back though, I know I can.
It's weird. I'm in Jordan's quad where we drink every Thursday but this Thursday is different. It's just about midnight, and the party is over already. Was it the beer bong that hit us all? I know it's hit me and I'm sure I'll realize when it hits me in the morning. I don't know, but it's certainly a little different. James just isn't drinking as much as normal. HE went 4 x 4ing and he must've had a few then. Ah well. And others have too much schoolwork tomorrow or something. I'ts just a different feel for a Thursday night although I have to say the beer bong is a great idea and we'll be hitting that shit next Thursday. But still, it's a little weird. It's only just after midnight.
I just tried answering my second call in a row on my cell phone and whoever called hung up. I fucking hate that, it's like a pet peeve of mine. I don't like prank calls or people hanging up right away. It's damn ignorant.
Anyways, I need to get some sleep. I tried calling a girl from PG that I met last weekend to come out. She said no, because she had an 8 a.m. class in the morning. Fair enough! But I need to work on some schoolwork and start dating because being 21, single and unmotivated isn't sitting well with me right now. I need to do somethign about it soon. The typos are just form my unconscience form right now from tall the drinkgina dhi shit. I've had a few to drink tongiht. Ah well, we all have thoughs nights, ya know what i mean. Anwyas, until next time, cheers! Later.

PG - MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME

I consider Kamloops to be my home now, and with good reason. I live there eight months of the year, and go to school and work there during that time. But, although I haven't stayed in PG for a period longer than a week or so since I first moved away almost 14 months ago, being around the family, and seeing familiar faces and places brings back memories of 20 years of living I've spent here. PG will always be my first home away from home regardless of where I end up. It's where I was born and raised, where I graduated, where most of my family lives, and really the town what goes on in this town refects the kind of person I've become today. It makes me who I am.
Yet it's strange to come home to only my mom and brother. My sister was at her boyfriends place last night, and my dad is in Grande Prarie, but will be back this evening sometime. I guess the two have them got used to it over the summer though when my dad first started making trips to Grande Prarie, and my sister was in Europe. Boy, how much things have changed even within my family. My sister is putting a payment down on a condo. Yeah, that's right. She's buying a place and moving in with her boyfriend Jaret. I think it's great. He's a nice guy, and they seem to be a good match, although I've never got the chance to know him real well living in Kamloops and all. In some ways I wish I could've stayed the four months off college up here, and spent a summer with all the friends and family in PG, but then I'd be missing the opportunity to build on a career in journalism.

PG + THURSDAY NIGHT = IRONHORSE

Roberto: Remember this place Al?
me: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ya.

That was Roberto talking as we walked into the Ironhorse Pub in downtown Prince George. I got into town at about 9:30 last night, and just over an hour later, I found myself leaving home to go downtown for ladies night at the ironhorse. I knew I'd be drinking a lot this weekend, and I think I made the message clear with everyone in Kamloop with what I'd be doing. It's crazy, the Max in downtown Kamloops one night, and just the night after I find myself sipping on bottles of Canadian, saying hi to some familiar faces in downtown PG.
All in all it was a pretty good night. A nice night to relax and chill. I spend a lot of the night talking about how things are in Kamloops, while asking what's changed in PG. Well, there certainly are some changes, but some things just never change. The same bouncers at the bar, and people behind the counter, and same regulars going to the bar. I'm already starting to notice the same thing at the Max in Kamloops. It's like a drug, and people just can't get enough of it.
I love how big hockey is in this town though, I mean those who say Kamloops is the biggest hockey town need to make a trip to PG then think again. Lots of my friends were watching the 'Nucks game, talking about it, while a few have a hockey game tonight they want me to come watch. The Cougars also have a home game tonight, and I believe the Spruce Kings must too, at home or on the road. I think the fact that PG has both BCHL and WHL hockey teams speaks for itself.
Ah, well I'm running out of things to ramble on about so I suppose I should get off here, and go do something. After all, I've only got 3 days here I need to make the most of.
